The Environmental Solutions Initiative
Founded in 2014 and led by architecture professor John E. Fernandez, the Environmental Solutions Initative (ESI) is an effort by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to address environmental issues, with a primary focus in three areas: Climate Science and Earth Systems, Cities and Infrastructure, and Sustainable Production and Consumption.

The ESI sponsors many environmental programs and also works with the Sustainability Initiative at MIT Sloan to design academic offerings on sustainability. The ESI additionally offers numerous opportunities for students (both undergraduate and graduate) and MIT faculty alike to conduct research spanning over a wide range of topics.

The Rapid Response Group
The mission of the Rapid Response Group (RRG) is to address critical environmental issues via scientific analysis and assistance from the government, civil society, industry, business, and communities. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to effective actions to preserve the environment for people and ecosystems alike.
The RRG is comprised of a diverse group of undergraduate students, graduate students, and MIT faculty. We work to align our expertise and goals with the needs of a variety of organizations. We are impartial in our analysis and creation of different products including briefing documents, fact sheets, executive summaries, and other media materials.
